How to use Iron Gall Ink Test Paper

This demonstration shows a diagnostic procedure to detect the presence of iron (II) ions from a paper document. The ions in iron gall ink are harmful to paper (and other organic media) and over time will cause destruction of the document. Detecting the presence of iron gall ink is the first step in preservation of a document that may require treatment and/or digitisation before storage.
